The portal, the first of its kind, serves as an online hub for everything you wish to know on children in Uganda. It was launched on June 21, 2017 by the Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) in collaboration with UNICEF Uganda at the former's conference hall.

ED Portal launch

According to a joint press release issued at the launch, the portal, represents a national online ‘one stop shop’ with information on the lives of Ugandan children in regard to their fundamental rights - the rights to health, education and development, protection, and participation. “It is a unique online resource to share ideas, and draw on success stories to replicate and/or scale up relevant interventions,” the press release further states.

Speaking at the launch, the Executive Director EPRC, Dr. Sarah Ssewanyana, described the portal as an avenue where all stakeholders can take part in sharing issues concerning children. “The portal provides a platform where we can all leverage our resources to advance the children’s agenda in Uganda,” She said, adding that it is good advocacy tool on cross cutting children’s issues.

Relatedly, Diego Angemi, the UNICEF Uganda Chief of Social Policy and Advocacy, appealed to stakeholders to not only use the portal for informing policy decisions but to also extensively popularize it among the intended beneficiaries for improved strategic planning for children in Uganda.

The participants at the launch applauded EPRC and UNICEF  for successfully building the portal, shared additional strategies for promoting the portal and pledged to provide content to keep the portal up-to-date.
