The survey was conducted in 2013 by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics and International Labour Organization (ILO).

The SWTS is part of a global initiative by ILO to understand the labour market conditions faced by youth. Since 2011, the SWTSs have been undertaken in 28 countries including 8 countries from sub Saharan Africa (SSA).  A major finding from the Uganda survey is that the transition from school to work by Ugandan youth takes a very long time.

By the age of 30 years, only 12% of the youth are in stable employment partly due to jobless macroeconomic growth. EPRC’s Research Analyst Gemma Ahaibwe was one of the panellist that discussed the survey findings.
