LAUNCH OF A REPORT ON FOSTERING A SUSTAINABLE AGRO-INDUSTRIALISATION AGENDA IN UGANDA

The Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) in collaboration with Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) will launch a report titled “Fostering a Sustainable Agro-Industrialisation Agenda in Uganda”.

The report presents a case for activating a transformative Agro-Industrialisation agenda (AGI) in the context of Uganda’s proposed Industrial Policy. It outlines the urgent need for Government to shift the country’s economic centre of gravity from low to high value agro-manufacturing.

The central argument is, that for Uganda to unlock its agro-industrialisation agenda, the country needs to adopt focused policies, budgets and sectoral implementation plans, covering fewer, fundable, game changer commodities namely, coffee, cotton, tea, cassava, maize, oil palm, fisheries, dairy and beef, out of the 15 broad priorities outlined in the Agriculture Sector Strategic Plan (ASSP) 2015/16-2019/20.
